We frequently get many questions about our food and in some
unfortunate cases we are viewed as the last resort to some serious pre-existing
feline, health problems attributed to a specie inappropriate diet, (i.e.) kibbled
dry foods, preservative based diets and other unhealthy sources of nourishment.
There is a disclaimer at the bottom of each of our web pages stating that we are
not veterinarians and do not make pretense
in being so. We offer kindly advice, in hopes of being of simple and useful help
in explaining to you what we do in everyday circumstances. We are just like you,
we love our guys too. We are curious as to how you handle certain feeding problems
and how you
deal with them. We, in turn, offer our expertise in providing you with the best
specie appropriate food for your loving “furball” as a solution to most feline,
dietary problems. Food, that will eventually return many of your animals to the
health and vigor they were meant to live and experience as cats. It’s exactly what
we feed our “22” expert research assistants with fur coats here! Sometimes we get
animals so loaded down with steriods and various medications for IBD or other gastrointestinal
problems and health issues. We are often looked to be a quick solution to
a long term pre-existing problem. What we make and afford our customers is an opportunity
to provide a healthy formula conducive to optimum feline health and nutrition. That
is our mission, my mission…to be part of your solution and not part of the problem
your cat is or may be experiencing. It’s going to take a little time to get your
cat detoxified from commercial foods and preservatives….it took my guys awhile too…Today
I’m still hearing “Hail Caesar!”…. when they see the food bowls coming! Some of
you that do come to our welcome mat at Feline’s Pride come with problems that have
been created by specie inappropriate foods. Some issues with veterinarians that
have offered you false hopes or no hope at all for a cure for your friend’s health
issues. My heart goes out to each and every one of you in your time of need. I know
what it is like to have a very sick friend and to be alone with nowhere to go for
help. I remember an old rural vet I had brought a very sick feral kitten to hoping
we could save his little life who had an attitude I wish every vet would understand
needs to be conveyed to us anxious cat owners at these troubling times. The words
he simply said to me was, “Where there is life there is hope!”
Those words were comforting for some reason. I guess, to me, it meant he wasn’t
even thinking of giving up! That’s the attitude I want to hear when it comes to
my guys, as I am sure it does when it comes to yours. We oftentimes receive inquiries
from owners with over medicated pets that are in trouble and can’t eat. Some have
been overmedicated with God knows what…. and for how long? Some practitioners keep
pitching medications; throwing them up against the problem hoping something will
stick at your animal’s expense. Some simple health issues can be treated successfully
in this manner others cannot and become more complicated. “Pitching” meds against
symptoms sometimes exacerbates and complicates them even further until things get
out of hand. The source of the problem is out of control within the realm of “normally
accepted” procedures and you and your vet are stuck with complications and symptoms
becoming extremely complicated and degenerative in nature. In some cases, advice
is given unjustly and, sometimes misdiagnosed. Suddenly a health issue becomes an
unexplained mystery that defies normal channels and you are at the mercy of chance
with your loved one’s life in harm’s way. Some cases are just related to lack of
total comprehension of the issues at hand and not one’s area of expertise. That’s
when we as “cat” people need the help of “cat specialists” dedicated to the little
furballs that we love and enjoy so much.
Fortunately, for me, and after so many, many years of trying
to find “creative artists”, artists in the veterinarian profession, I can confidently
and proudly recommend two dedicated, marvelous “cat” specialists. I call them...
“Cat Whisperers”. They have that burning curiosity and dedication
rooted in their hearts of what makes these cats “tick.” They can offer expert clinical
advice as a vet’s, “vet.” These wonderful practitioners can work with you in solving
many of the problems that you have come to ask us. We welcome those questions but
there are some issues that come

our way we need to refer to someone more qualified. In those times of crisis and
immediate need, when you have serious problems we can’t help you with, we need to
get you to the best help possible…fast!.... and with the…
“where there is life….there is hope… “cattitude!”
Thank You!

It is with a lot of “Pride” that
we put these posts and comments up from other people who come our way asking for
help and direction when they feel they are lost and have no place to go for help
for their furry kids. These are our angels in the veterinarian world…..our miracle
workers....please contact them if you need help.
I was referred to Dr. Pierson.
I honestly feel that it saved my cat's life! Dr. Pierson took all the
time necessary to talk with my about my cat's Chronic Renal Failure and all the
various things that are involved with this disease. She was able to explain to me
in terms that I understand, what is going on with Buster's body, what I could expect,
what various treatments, medications and supplements will do to prolong his life,
and what tests I should have performed on him in order to get the greatest amount
of information possible to aid in his treatment. The most important thing that she
stressed with my cat was to get an accurate blood pressure reading and to get him
on the proper blood pressure medication. When my cat's BP was measured, it was very
close to stroke level and I cannot thank Dr. Pierson enough for stressing over and
over and over again the importance of this! She suggested changes in Buster's treatment
that my vet didn't feel were necessary at this time and now, only two weeks later,
I cannot believe the change in him! He looks great, he feels great, he has a wonderful
appetite and energy level - he is very much a different cat. Also very helpful were
the various resources and links that Dr. Pierson provided so that I could take an
active role in choosing the best food options for Buster, and also providing a raw
food diet tailored to his needs. All of the sites she provided are full of helpful
information that have given me so many new ideas and insights into finding medications,
medical supplies and tips that make giving him his daily medications and supplements
easier and less stressful for both of us. If you are in doubt, if you have any doubts
about your vet's knowledge in treating CFR, DO NOT hesitate to consult with Dr.
Pierson! The very best thing you can do for your CFR cat is to educate yourself
about his/her condition and the treatment options that are available. What I have
learned in the 3 months since my cat was diagnosed with CFR is that there are a
lot of vets out there who have no idea what they are doing with regard to treating
CFR. Help yourself help your cat - become educated!

Doug from New Jersey e-mails us: I have been using Dr. Hodgkins
to care for my cats for over 15 months now and must say that she has allowed me
to again believe that there are some good vets left. Before Dr. Hodgkins,
I was having nothing but problems. Every vet I used would fail my animals… and their
health was the sign of failure. Dr. Hodgkins enabled me to bring my diabetic cats
and my CRF cats back into good health by simple, smart treatment. She also improved
the lifestyle of my healthy cats by recommending better food for them. I highly
recommend Dr. Hodgkins for anyone that needs a vet.
Sincerely,
Douglas Cohn
At the urging of a member of Dr. Hodgkin's website, Your Diabetic Cat.com, I
read about Dr. Hodgkin's "protocol" for my Maine Coon cat, Harley,
who was just diagnosed with Feline Diabetes. After reading this, I posted messages
for Dr. Hodgkins to start my cat on her protocol. It was hard for me to trust someone
who I had only met online but I went ahead and tried her program and was AMAZED
at the results! Harley was off insulin within 2 WEEKS! His blood sugar is now staying
in normal ranges without help from me. Had I not tried this protocol and thrown
out ALL DRY FOOD, Harley would still need his twice daily shots as well as all the
"ear pricking" to measure his blood sugar levels. I am so grateful to Dr. Hodgkins.
She is truly devoted to ending Feline Diabetes. She takes time out of her busy schedule
to answer ALL questions several times a day. As far as I am concerned she is a lifesaver!
Harley was diagnosed 5/9/06. I started him on Dr. H's protocol 6/23/06 & he's been
off insulin since 6/30/06. Harley & I will forever be indebted to Dr. Hodgkins.
With her commitment to educating people about their cats, she is on the way to wiping
out Feline Diabetes. Thank you again Dr. Hodgkins, you are a kitty god!
Looking forward to buying your new book!!!

Greta came to me from the farm across the street. The first time
I saw her I thought she was a kitten, upon closer inspection I found she was a nursing
mommy. I would put out 8 oz. of dry food each morning and she would devour it in
one sitting. I found later that the farm had 20+ kitties and only tossed out one
scoop of dry Friskies a day for all. Within a week, she, one at a time, carried
her kittens across the street to eat at my home. She would finish anything that
was left. Within a couple months I was the forever caregiver for both her and one
of her kittens. I believe, due to her early “kittenhood”, that she has always been
obsessed with food. When Greta was nine, I noticed an increased PU/PD. I suspected
it may be diabetes. I changed her food from Purina One to Purina Pro, then to Purina
DM Dry. One year later the PU/PD was no better, and by then she had developed some
neuropathy. Greta was officially diagnosed diabetic in March ’06 and put on Vetsulin,
BID. The vet did recommend home testing. I followed his instructions until the end
of May ‘06 with no improvement. Luckily I found yourdiabeticcat.com web site. I
immediately switched her insulin to BCP PZI, trashed all the dry food and treats,
replacing it with canned and raw, and started testing/shooting on the sliding scale
you provided. Greta’s improvement has been close to miraculous. Her neuropathy is
completely gone, and her BG’s are usually down in the double digits for 20+ hours
a day now. This has all been done in less than two months. I will forever be grateful
to you Dr. Hodgkins for sharing all your brilliant insight into this terrible man
made disease.

My boy, Birdie was diagnosed with feline diabetes on July 1st, 2006. My wonderful
vet gave me lots of literature, special food and a demonstration on injecting insulin.
The most important item he gave me was a website URL full of articles, more information
and supportive people who also cared for diabetic cats. I couldn’t be more grateful
because I was overwhelmed. I’m not scientific. I’m not math oriented. I was afraid
I would loose my sweet sweet buddy. With the support of many wonderful people, I
was dosing Birdie daily but as his blood glucose numbers continued to rise, so did
his insulin dose. I knew the longer he stayed at the higher numbers the more damage
would happen to his body and the shorter his life would be so I continued to read
and explore. Through my reading and by following all of the links provided, I found
an article written by Dr. Elizabeth Hodgkins, DVM. What I read confirmed “cat” things
I’ve known my whole life. It made so much sense to me that I followed a link to
Dr. H.’s (fondly) website so I could read more. It all made perfect sense and I
had to give it a shot. After carefully following the directions (so easy, just eliminate
ALL dry food from my cat’s diet and feed high protein, low carbohydrate food for
48 hours and thereafter) Birdie and I were ready to begin Dr. H.’s protocol of tight
regulation on August 3, 2006. Routinely Birdie’s blood glucose numbers were nearing
400. Not horrible but nowhere near good as 150 which is considered a high normal.
It’s August 10th today and we’ve been doing Dr. H.’s protocol for 1 week with amazing
results. It’s been 2 days since Birdie’s had a blood glucose reading over 300. Frankly,
we’re not even close to 300. I can see the BG trend heading down sharply and have
great hopes of Birdie being one of Dr. Hodgkin’s remission kitties. It has been
over 12+ hours since Birdie’s last shot and I don’t need to give him any insulin
because his BG numbers are in that Promised Land, under 100. Each day his insulin
lasts longer and his overall numbers continue to drop. Is it a miracle? Yes and
no. Dr. Hodgkins’ understanding and love of cats, her own experience of owning a
diabetic cat, her work, research and dedication, those are not miracles. The true
miracle is her willingness to share her protocol with anyone in need, her advice
and loving support so all kitties like Birdie can have a long, loving and healthy
life. By now you’re asking, “Is this hard to do?” and the answer is, no. It is so
simple and makes so much sense it’s hard to imagine that the protocol isn’t routine
worldwide. If you can give your cat an insulin injection then you can follow Dr.
Hodgkins’ protocol. If you want to know more, come to www.mydiabeticcat.com. I’m
on the forum with lots of others who are currently doing treatment and those whose
cats are in remission or are regulated (off of insulin). We’re all happy to answer
questions, give LOTS of advice :) but the best part is Dr. Hodgkins, who drops in
frequently (does she ever sleep?) to help out with her support and input. She freely
answers questions and helps explain technique and often addresses feline medical
questions. If you feel you are already living at your vet’s office, why not bring
it home?
